PSG Edges Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the season-opening cup on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice late to seize a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout win.

The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
